Background and aims:
The Swiss Ecohydraulics Day (SED) 2026 marks the continuation and expansion of the inaugural event, ETH Ecohydraulics Day, which was organised in 2024. The SED aims to present state-of-art approaches and emerging challenges in ecohydraulics research topics of relevance for the national stakeholders. In 2026, the SED will be jointly organised with the XVI International Symposium in Ecohydraulics to be held in Lausanne, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore, connect with and discuss ecohydraulics topics with international delegates.
The core goal of the SED is to stimulate an open dialogue between science and practice, thereby promoting synergies in the context of river adaptation in a changing world. In particular, the event will showcase ecohydraulics research and practice developed in Switzerland and related to supporting the goals of the Swiss Water Protection Act. Thus, the overarching topics that will form the backbone of the SED programme will include but not be restricted to:
1) River connectivity and fish passages for upstream and downstream movements;
2) Hydropeaking mitigation, monitoring and management;
3) River restoration;
4) Hydrodynamics and habitat modelling.
